Things That Are Better Than Money

Money is an important part of society. In the world we live in today, money has almost become synonymous with power and  success, but if you take a closer look there are things that are actually better than money.I am even certain that without some of these things, it would be close to impossible to make and keep a lot of money. Although there are many things that are better than money, for today I will go through 5 things that are better than money, and here they are:

1. A Good Name
There are people whose names are synonymous with good deeds, and whenever those people’s names are mentioned, people pay attention. Names like Mandela, Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Mother Theresa are names that represent good, and many people have given thousands, some even millions to support causes associated with these names. By the same token, there are people whose names are synonymous with bad or evil, names like Hitler, Idi Amin, and a few others. Your name might not be on the same level as the people mentioned above but, one thing is for sure, you have created certain connotations around your name, either knowingly or unknowingly. In business, or otherwise, it is best to create a good name for yourself, because people want to be associated with good names, and they want to deal with and do business with people whose names represent greatness. Take banks for instance, before they grant anyone a lone, they want to first do background checks and find out if the person they’re dealing with has fared well in having a good credit record – which ultimately means the person protected their name by paying their previous loans on time, or either the person did not bother to pay at all. Speaking of banks, you know there are people who don’t even have to provide banks with any collateral, simply because of the person’s name?

2. Relationships
Relationships are better than money. In fact, without relationships, it is impossible to build anything sustainable or profitable. Even the people with the best ideas in the world, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Steve Jobs of Apple, and even Bill Gates of Microsoft, have had to rely on relationships to get their ideas to the global stage. Money alone can not get you what you want. In fact, with the right type of relationships in place, you don’t even need money to fulfill your dreams because your relationships will ensure that the money comes. Relationships you have with colleagues, mentors, peers, other business people, bankers, lawyers, coaches, employees, and many others who are not making this list today are important. Why? Because without relationships you cannot get any further than you are. Business is interconnected, it’s all about relationships.

3. Influence
Money can buy you access to certain places but money can never buy you influence, and influence is leadership. John Maxwell puts it this way; “Leadership is influence, nothing more nothing less”. The ability to get people to do things in a certain way, the ability to drive change, the ability draw the best out of people and make them believe they can do the impossible is better than money. Leading 3 people, 6 people, 1000 people, leading and influencing thousands, or even million is better than money, because money always follows leaders who have influence. The reason a good CEO is always paid 100 and sometimes 300 times more than the average employee is because the person has leadership capabilities that put him in a position to influence the company to perform. Leadership is influence, and influence is better than money, because money follows influence. The more people you can influence, the more money you can make.

4. Knowledge
In case you are wondering; knowledge is not power, the continued collection and application of knowledge is power, and yes knowledge is better than money. If someone hands a cheque for a million dollars to you, that doesn’t make you a millionaire. To be a millionaire, you need to know how to make a million dollars. That’s why people who win the lottery end up losing all the money and sometimes even get into more debt, and lose everything. The reason is because they don’t know how to become and remain millionaire. They skipped the process. Knowledge protects you from ignorance, and ignorance can be very costly. That’s why you need to keep studying and developing yourself as much as possible and taking calculated risks to apply your knowledge because that knowledge is what you need to make money. Knowledge is better than money. If you have money but do not have knowledge then you better get some knowledge because if you don’t then sooner or later the money will dry up. Knowledgeable people who have skill will always be paid more than skilled people who have no knowledge. Get knowledge, get understanding, be wise. Wisdom is better than money.

5. Respect
Lastly. People do things for you, either because you have money or because they respect and admire you. To build a team, a business, or a career, all you need to do is get yourself respected by everyone in your company, industry, country, or even the world. Build such a remarkable track record that people want to work with you, not because of the money you have or don’t have but rather because of the respect they have for you because of what you do. Respect is better than money. Who wouldn’t to do business with someone who is the best at what they do? Money follows respect. If you want to make a lot of money, be seek out to earn the respect of everyone who knows you in your industry. Be a respectable person, period. Money will follow you.

I wish you success.

Kind Regards,
