Specialize Until You are Special

What is the one thing that sets you apart from the rest of the world? If I needed help with something this very day, then what is the one thing that I could come to you for? If I was to think of you today, what skills, products, services will I immediately attribute to you? In today’s world of “busyness”, these questions are very important to answer, and to answer with great clarity. We live in a society where it is so easy to get lost in the hustle and bustle of doing “deals”.

Everyone wants to succeed, and they would literally do anything and everything possible to do so. The problem with this is that it leads to burn out. You get burn out, not necessarily because you are tired, but only because you lose your purpose, drive, and focus.

It’s important to determine what the key focus of your life, business, and family will be, and determining what to focus on, it will be important for you to choose something that you will be specializing on to set you apart from the rest of your friends, colleagues, family members, and the world at large.

Specialization is important because:

1.It will give you a sense of purpose

Choosing to lose off all opportunities that come your way except the ones that you are great at will put you way ahead of 90% of the people who live on planet earth.

2.It will give you energy

I’m not saying that you must focus only on work that you like doing. What I’m saying is that you should focus on work that you are great at doing. This means you will not be taking up any work except what you are good at, no matter the promise of quick gains it promises. Doing this will make sure that you only focus on work that is meaningful to you, nut not only that, it’s work that you are great at doing, and are exceptional at it.

3.It will make you stand out, and you will be recognized

Standing out is easy. All you must do is do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. People with exceptional work ethics, skills, services, or products always stand out. Think of Steve Jobs, one of the greatest sales people who ever lived, what made him stand out? The fact that he focused passionately on what he was good at, creating and selling products. He wasn’t the designer, was he? Of course not, he has always been the sales man. Have you ever seen Warren Buffet trying to become a computer genius like Bill Gate? Of course not, and that is because he has learned to focus himself on becoming and investment guru and that has made in stand out.

4.It will give you confidence

Doing things that you are not great at will steal your confidence. If you split yourself too thin in many “deals” in which all you produce is mediocrity, then you will not have confidence in yourself and in your abilities, and ultimately that will be evident to everyone you engage with. Focusing on your expertise will not only set you apart, but it will give you confidence because you will have the assurance that you will always be needed. Don’t be afraid of being different, diligent, and focused!

Specialize until you are special

I wish you success

Yours Sincerely,

Witness Mdaka,

CEO, Quality Growth International
